The 2017 IASC-ARS Conference

The 2017 IASC-ARS conference will be held at University of Auckland, New Zealand, on 10-14
December 2017. The conference is joint between the Asian Regional Section of the International
Association for Statistical Computing (IASC-ARS) and the New Zealand Statistical Association. More
details about the conference can be found in our website http://www.iascars2017.com/.
Latest news: There will be a young statisticians event and 4 pre-conference R workshops. The
conference is joint between the Asian Regional Section of the International Association for Statistical
Computing and the New Zealand Statistical Association.
To promote the participation of young researchers, IASC-ARS will offer a prize for the best contribution
submitted by a non-NZ student. Likewise, the NZSA will be offering 3 prizes to NZ-based students.
Seats for the conference dinner are very limited now; the 300 seat capacity will mean that
unfortunately late registrants will miss out. Pre-conference workshops (10 December): seats are still
available for these.
The conference marks the retirement of Ross Ihaka, one of the two co-founders of R. The plenary
speakers will be Jennifer Bryan, Ross Ihaka, Luke Tierney, and Simon Urbanek. There will be a young
statisticians event and pre-conference R workshops.
Abstract submissions have closed. All presenters must be registered by 8 November in order to be
included in the schedule and programme booklet. The standard registration fee now applies.
Draft versions of the schedule should be made available at the conference websites in early
December. Information for presenters will also be put there.
We look forward to seeing you in Auckland!

3rd Latin American Conference on Statistical Computing (LACSC)

Call for Papers
The 3rd Latin American Conference on Statistical Computing (LACSC 2018) will be held in San José,
Costa Rica, from February 27 to March 2, 2018. This international conference, will be held together
with the XXI International Symposium on Mathematical Methods Applied to the Sciences (XXI
SIMMAC), which is the most important event in applied mathematics in Central America. Its aim is to
gather researchers interested in statistical computing in Latin America and from other parts of the
world, and is the official conference of the recently established Latin American Regional Section of the
International Association for Statistical Computing (LARS-IASC). More details about the 3rd LACSC
can be found in our website http://www.cimpa.ucr.ac.cr/simmac/en/lacsc.
The Scientific Program Committee of the 3rd LACSC is now soliciting suggestions for Invited Paper
Sessions (IPS, 90 minutes with three speakers) to be considered as part of the scientific program of
the conference. Please submit formal proposals before November 30, 2017 to Paulo Canas
Rodrigues (paulocanas@gmail.com), including title, brief description of the topic, and a list of speakers
and discussant who have agreed to be part of the session, and their abstracts.
Young researchers (up to 5 years after their last academic degree) attending the 3rd LACSC will have
the possibility to compete for the “Best LACSC 2018 Paper Award”.

Abstracts for contributed talks and contributed posters can be submitted online until November 30, 2017.

Joint Summer School on Clustering, Data Analysis and Visualization of Complex Data
The Joint Summer School on Clustering, Data Analysis and Visualization of Complex Data will take
place in Catania, Italy, on 21-25 May 2018. The summer school is a joint effort by ERS-IASC
(European Regional Section of International Association for Statistical Computing) ECAS (European
Courses in Advanced Statistics) and CLADAG (Classification and Data Analysis Group of the Italian
Statistical Society). More details can be found at http://www.clucla-summerschool.org/ .

The Conference of Data Science, Statistics & Visualisation (DSSV 2018)
The conference of Data Science, Statistics & Visualisation (DSSV 2018) will take place on July 9-11,
2018 in TU Wien, Austria. This meeting shall create a forum to discuss recent progress and emerging
ideas in these different disciplines and encourage informal contacts and discussions among all the
participants. The conference welcomes contributions to practical aspects of data science, statistics
and visualisation, and in particular those which are linking and integrating these subject areas.
Presentations should thus be oriented towards a very wide scientific audience, and can cover topics
such as machine learning and statistical learning, the visualisation and verbalization of data, big data
infrastructures and analytics, interactive learning, advanced computing, and other important themes.
The conference will feature the keynote speaker Jerome H. Friedman (Stanford University) and Helwig
Hauser (University of Bergen). The deadline for abstract submission is due to 9 April, 2018 subject to
no other postponement. The DSSV2018 scientific committee encourages and welcomes you to submit
