The Institute for Statistics and Mathematics at WU (Vienna University of Economics and
Business) is currently inviting applications for an
Assistant Professor, tenure track (qualification agreement) in the field of Computational Statistics
Fulltime, 40 hours/week

Please note that under the terms of the WU personnel development plan, the position of Assistant
Professor, tenure track, is limited to an employment period of not more than six years. For this
position, a qualification agreement can be considered after a period of two years, pursuant to § 27 of
the Collective Bargaining Agreement (Kollektivvertrag für die ArbeitnehmerInnen der Universitäten).
After successful fulfillment of any qualification agreement made, employment can be made permanent.
From the perspective of organizational regulations, employees who have successfully completed a
qualification agreement are to be classified as full professors.

Your responsibilities
The successful applicant will carry out independent research and supervision activities in the field of
Computational Statistics. We are particularly interested in researchers whose scientific work focuses
on the computational aspects of modern statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms and
their application to the analysis of large data sets. A proven interest in applications from the fields of
economics, finance or business is an advantage, but candidates working in other application areas in
the fields of social or environmental science are also encouraged to apply. In line with the Collective
Bargaining Agreement, teaching duties associated with the position initially comprise 4 hours per
week; they can be in quantitative education programs at WU at all Levels (bachelor, master and PhD).

Your profile
You hold a diploma or an MSc as well as a PhD in mathematics, statistics or equivalent. We expect
scientific excellence, documented by publications in internationally recognized journals and
international experience (a PhD from a non-Austrian university or at least one year of working
experience on the postdoc level at a non-Austrian university and a good international network). First
managerial experience (e.g. acquisition and/or management of third-party projects) is an advantage.
German language skills are not a prerequisite, but we expect the willingness to acquire proficiency in
German over time.
