Summary
In this webinar, we shall give an over view of a cross-sectional survey using a cluster sampling technique. Thereafter, an insight into the use of ENA for SMART software (updated version 2020) as deployed in a Nutrition and Retrospective Mortality survey would be presented as a standard, simplified, cross-sectional field survey method designed to aid the collection of quality, up-to-date and timely nutrition data; and necessary for decision-making. This methodology will harmonize methods for nutrition assessments, especially during emergencies and it is important that Statisticians who are interested in their in-country National Health Statistical System, can begin to partner with National and International Non-governmental Organizations (N & INGOs) and United Nations (UN) agencies to expand the use of the SMART methodology, in conducting nutrition surveys, both in emergency and development contexts.
During the webinar, the interest and curiosity of Statisticians and other participants toward strengthening the Nutrition Information System (NIS) in their countries, including conducting nutrition surveys on a more regular basis would be awakened; and in the long run, it would help to address the current shortage of qualified SMART survey manager and Master trainers globally who are Statisticians. This first series of our webinar, would dwell (to a reasonable extent) on pre-viewing the software ENA for SMART (updated version 2020), the usefulness of Anthropometric measures, Confidence Intervals and Z-score in the survey. We shall also briefly give an over view of acute malnutrition, checklist for conducting the nutrition survey and practical instances where we have conducted the survey.
